The BFOR study is closed. This website is for information purposes only but is no longer actively monitored.
Women and men with a BRCA gene mutation have a greater risk of developing several types of cancer. Most of those at risk do not know that they carry a BRCA mutation.
The BFOR study provides genetic testing for common BRCA mutations for women and men of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jewish ancestry, age 25 or older, in four U.S. metropolitan areas. 95% of American Jews are Ashkenazi.
The study is no longer open for general enrollment. While there are no plans for another study at the current time, there may be future opportunities to participate in similar research. If you would like to be contacted about enrolling in any future studies like the BFOR study, please enter your email address here.
There are other opportunities to test for BRCA mutations and obtain advice from a qualified healthcare provider. If you meet the eligibility criteria for BFOR, we encourage you to talk to your doctor or a genetic counselor (resources below) about the genetic counseling and genetic testing options available to you so that you can understand and manage your cancer risk.
Genetic centers involved in BFOR are listed below with the contact number for scheduling. Other centers in these cities and centers outside of the BFOR geographic regions can be found on the National Society of Genetic Counselors Website.
